What is more prevalent in our society, racism or ism?
As seen through the prism of this election season, I believe we can ascertain the degree of ism and racism prevalent in the US. Given what I have seen in the media, I believe that people feel much more comfortable and less culpable for being ist. I believe that men AND women in the media feel entitled to "a little ism," as if it's just fine to bash a woman for being a woman and criticizing her on the basis of gender. This comes when a woman either shows no emotion, or shows it. Either way, she cannot win. This shows when Randy Rhodes, a so-called "liberal," calls Hillary and G. Ferrara "s," or when David Shuster says that Hillary is "pimping out Chelsea" Clinton. Why is ism seemingy OK, while overt racism, or even slightest HINTS or even SUGGESTIONS of it, have been roundly and soundly condemned without a second ping? Your thoughts?
