How should I prepare my dog for hiking the Trinity Alps?

I'm planning to hike the Trinity Alps Aug 1st - Aug 9th. Leaving my dog home isn't an option. How should I prepare my dog and what should I bring? I'm already getting him used to a backpack and walking him everyday.
