Can having my name removed from The Mormon Church membership files make me this happy?

The Bishop told me I'd lose guidance from both the Holy Ghost and the Priesthood if I left the church. I just feel an overwhelming sense of joy and freedom like a huge pack of rocks has been lifted from me. Other members have said I'll be in darkness and that my skin will start to get black and loathsome now that I have left Mormonism. Is this true? I'm happy but worried. What do you know about these things. Were you ever in a similar position?
